Hi there,
This all depends on the site you have. Suppose you have some investment site then go for forex or stock affiliates or if you own some gaming site the choose something related to it. This will actually maximize you returns as the traffic of your site will get a common interest adds.
For affiliates you just have to register and get banners or text links and paste them on your sites or blogs. If any traffic of yours click those adds you are paid. There are other critiera as well depending on the affiliate you choose.

The easiest way to get started in affiliate marketing is writing reviews. You join an affiliate network and look for a product that sells well and you think you could write a good review or comparison about. In that review you place your referral link. If a visitor to your site/blog/article clicks on the link and buys, you get commission.
The hardest thing will be to get traffic to your site, starting out I would definitely recommend article marketing as this doesn’t cost you anything. You write articles related to the product you’re selling and then link them to your website/blog with the review.
